Do you really need new furniture? Do you like what you have? Is it valuable enough to invest in slip-covering or reupholstering, refinishing?

Here are a few before and after shots of pieces that were very expensive and comfortable, but looked worn and outdated.

Before with a pattern so busy, you can hardly see the shape of the sofa,

In these pictures we've taken a chair that was very tired and gave it new energy.

After with a more subdued fabric, the skirt removed and a modified back, the sofa fits much better into the space.

This is the perfect solution for a fine, expensive, heirloom piece, or one that is soooo comfortable you just can't part with it (Why didn't Frasier Crane think of this for his father's recliner?) Consider the time you'll spend shopping for new furnishings vs. fabric selection for recovering.

If the above factors do not apply... a new piece can cost less, your item can find a new home.

Now that you've created this beautiful space, you have to read, cook and work in it. You'll need task, ambient and spot lighting to complete your spaces. We'll explore the differences between Xenon, CFL, Halogen, Incandescent and LED to see what works best for you. If you are in a single family home, consider a non-electrical addition to lighting like skylights or solar tubes.

And the bottom line in any room- the floor.
Are you a soft surface or hard surface lover- perhaps somewhere in the middle?
Hardwood, carpet, concrete, ceramic or perhaps linoleum (it ain't your grandma's floor no more). We'll explore all the options, pros and cons of each, and look at what will work best for you.
